Subject: 2 fold post: 1) sustain pedal issue solution. 2) recapping m-boards; advice?

hey folks, just a friendly info-sharing post here, (as well as a bit of info fishing).

1) for those who may ever come across the bizarre "sustain pedal depression triggers a voice" issue, it seems to have been sourced from an m-board. i was having a calibration issue on one of my m-boards(proper calibration resulted in NOT proper sound), a seemingly unrelated problem to the sustain pedal problem, so i sourced a spare and dropped it in. while i was waiting for it to arrive, i got to deducing, and realized that the sustain pedal being depressed triggered the SAME voice card every time-it was NOT rotating through the voice assignment procedure. it got me to thinking that the two problems may be related...

sure enough, a new m-board solved the sustain pedal issue as well. im guessing that somehow the sustain pedal was routing signal to the KAS for voice #3? i dont know, but another problem solved! if you ever come across this issue, and it is only happening on one bank or the other, look to the actual voice cards first.

2) now that i am approaching a KSR-caliber restoration on my cs80, the only things left would be recapping the m-boards, and finishing off the non-polar caps on the PRA board. this SEEMS like a no-brainer here, but just to make absolutely SURE i dont awaken a new sleeping dog, any tips? tricks? potholes to beware? (of course ive got the usual: static bracelet, desoldering gun, isolate card ears from keybed).

thanks for all the assistance here folks!!!!
