Vangelis mostly used the string section of the Roland VP-330 and/or RS-505 around this time. The strings can sound ∗stunning∗, especially with a good deal of reverb and delay (check my own "Hoellenengel" album, hint hint ;-) ).

Subject: [yamahacs80] Vangelis music question
Been listening to early 80's Vangelis. The album "See you later" has a
song called "Not just some. All of it". The strings in it sound like an
acoustic ensemble (cello and viola at least) but the credits mention
Vangelis as playing all instruments. Are these strings CS80 or are they
acoustic? If they are Yamaha, damn, that's pretty good imitative
synthesis!
