Subject: P6 noise problem and shielding the fx board

From: "Peter Isgren" <peter_isgren@yahoo.co.uk>

Hi there. I've recently bought myself a P6 that has the exact problem described by analog.no (http://analog.no/cms/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=48&Itemid=47). I think most is clear about how to fix this and I've just got one question before i get around to it. Isn't covering the fx board with this three layered shielding going to produce to much heat for the fx board? As I understand it the shield just lies there atop of the fx board. Is this ok?

Great group, btw!

Best wishes!
Peter

From analog.no:

"The Korg Polysix suffers from a noise problem caused by interference between the effect board and panel board.

Some units are more affected by this than others. You can check by rising the top panel while listening to the output at max volume.
If there is a significant drop in noise level when panel is up, then the upper part of the effect board should be shielded.

A shield can be made from alu-foil covered with self adhesive plastic film on both sides. Cut the plastic a bit larger than the foil to allow proper isolation of the edges. Strip off isolation of a thin wire and put this inside the "sandwich" to make contact with the foil and connect to ground."
