Just calibrate it the way you want it.
If you want to be able to mod the PW so much that the wave will not be audible, do that.
If you don't, then calibrate it so you always have a very narrow pulse at least.
As long as it works, tweak it the way you want it :)

Yes, it's normal and the way it is supposed to be.
From the User Manual:
"At 8 or above the pulse width becomes so narrow as to collapse, which
produces sound and in effect shuts off the VCOs."
Of course this should probably read "no sound" because otherwise it
wouldn't make much sense, would it?
