Subject: RE: [PolySix] Broken Oscillator (update)?

From: "Mike Thompson" <tubmyk2@comcast.net>

My P6 self-modulates (if that’s the right term)…

Basically it was fine until I literally moved it to another room and then
turned it on (something must’ve happened during transport) and all my
patches would modulate if I hold the key down for longer than 2 seconds. So
I went ahead and replaced the battery and diode, removing the capacitor like
on Old Crow’s website. My battery really didn’t leak that bad; it just
corroded on it’s side, but nothing seemed to hit the board, so I didn’t
bother doing the extensive repair for fear that I’d totally ruin my P6.
Maybe I’ll go through and replace IC’s if I can find them… but that’s the
problem I have with mine; self modulation. And I had to reload the patches
and they didn’t all work, so that’s another problem. I can try again I just
haven’t cuz I’m being lazy. Irritating, nonetheless…

I replaced one of the IC's near the battery, which had black legs.
Apart from that the whole board really looks ok, even the the traces.
And I checked every trace with the multimeter.
Personally I think it can't be the KLM-367, because saving works again,
like it did before. The fact that only every sixth note is wrong is in
my opinion a clear indicator for a problem on the KLM-366. And that
looks even better than the KLM-367. But I will see.

One thing to note is: That small cable that goes from the battery to
the other board above was black from the inside. On the other side it
was still copper-colored. So I guess some of that icky battery stuff
must have been crawling up inside of the cable. So I consider it to be
a good idea to check that cable as well in order to replace it if
needed.

What's the problem with your Polysix?

Mike
