Subject: EMI project

Hello fellow mellotron owners!

I´ve been reading some of your posts, as I have an ongoing project
restoring my EMI M400. Most of you will now shake your heads, and wish
me good luck with an EMI, as I found these to be badly assembled in
comparision to the Streetly ones. Well, my Tron is full of issues. I
have a whining motor, slow tape redraw and wobbly action. All of this
has to be solved in some way.

A obvious step will be to replace the CMC10. Streetly sell SMS-2 and
Mellotron.com sells SMS-5. Does anybody here know pros and cons with
these to models? What do you recommend?

Also, I´m told that rewiring of the power supply will be required.
What do you guys think about rewiring, vs changing the transformer?

Thirdly, the motor installed in the EMI, is as I´m told not designed
to last 35 years. Its running, but will it be good enough with the new
SMS´s? Thankful for any thought and experience you might have on this
one :)

Regards,
Philipp
