Couldn't agree more Fritz, Tales has some tentsion but I like dark music anyway, but "Close to the Edge" is magic.
I think having seen "Tales" live might be why it worls better for me, or at least is more comfortable.

Tony and I disagree on a lot, but I am also in the minority here.  I like Tales too.  If you listen through the drugs, there is some angst in there.

Close to the Edge goes to the desert island with me!

To each their own. I find "Topographic Oceans" delightfully intense.
Concentration rather than endurance or patience fits me.
You, Clay make it sound like a visit to the dentist.
Close to the Edge is the only Yes album that I like better.

Just seeing the words "Topographic Oceans" sends me into a state of profound, soul-destroying boredom. Topographic Oceans requires extraordinary patience / endurance that I will never have.
