GEORGE HARRISON
The Making Of All Things Must Pass [ReproMan, 3CD]
Outtakes.
And for those who would like the whole works…
These CDs might have started life as a Midnight Beat boxset in 1997 but ReproMan has added the Ringo Starr outtakes (which were also released by Midnight Beat as an apple-shaped CD single) to make it their own.
“A master quality collection of outtakes and in-progress versions from the making of George Harrison’s three-LP set All Things Must Pass comes from Vigotone’s ReproMan subsidiary. This three-CD set also adds a few Ringo Starr outtakes at the end.” - Philip Cohen
This is what Cave In commented at Bootlegzone: “With the sheer quality, majesty and quantity of music on this package, it is a wonder why George didn’t offer a 30th anniversary box set edition of his best album like Brian Wilson did when he issued the Pet Sound sessions box.
“George mentioned in the ATMP liner notes (2000 edition) that he resisted temptation to reduce the Phil Spector production from 1970. He could have done so, issued the album as it was, and offered these tantalizing performances as bonuses, and would have set a high benchmark for further major re-issues in the process. The multiple takes of Apple Scruff is equally enjoyable.
“If you could get your hands on this one, get it. Worth the admission price alone to hear the What is Life tracks.”
Thanks to Phil for sharing the lossless tracks.
Note: A longtime music fan, Philip Cohen was a contributor to the now-defunct ICE Magazine and compiled the boxsets for The Yardbirds, The Small Faces, Humble Pie and Nice.

Excellent quality alternate mixes, instrumental versions and outtakes.
If you enjoyed ReproMan’s All Things Must Surface, then you’ll want this upgrade.
As the note on Bootlegzone said, “Duplicates most of the material on All Things Must Surface, but with better sound quality. Highly recommended.”

GEORGE HARRISON
All Things Must Surface: The Making Of All Things Must Pass Part II [ReproMan RPM 107-108, 2CD]
Bootleg released in 2001. Acetates of songs recorded for All Things Must Pass. VG+ to Ex- SBD stereo.
This 2001 bootleg was served shortly after Apple reissued a remastered version of All Things Must Pass on the occasion of its 30th anniversary. ReproMan claimed this to be the unexpurgated acetates. Presumably, this was the early running order for All Things Must Pass, starting with Hear Me Lord and ending with the Apple Jam, whose order is identical to the official release.
Bootlegzone praised this release for uncovering “early stereo mixes” hitherto unheard of. “This follow-up to 1997’s The Making Of All Things Must Pass features two CDs of the unexpurgated acetates of songs released and unreleased from the LP, with additional material culled from other top-quality sources to provide the perfect companion piece to that set”, they said.
Fan comments were mixed. “A very good CD indeed, the high point here being the only version known of one of the first takes of My Sweet Lord, still with Its acoustic feeling. Quality however, could have been worked out a bit…,” suggested alessandromarinho. “Sound on The Making Of All Things Must Pass (Midnight Beat 3CD) is much better,” he concluded.
Another fan, Kevin Isles said this was a “knock off” “of the All Things Must Pass Apple Acetate CD by Unicorn Records but the track list has been altered.”
What’s on offer is a fly-on-the-wall moment before the polish and the buffering was applied. The sound quality while not equal to the official release is not bad. It’s rough but spirited. You realise that Harrison reserved his singing and (presumably) preferred to dub his voice later. Many of the tracks here are instrumentals. If you listen to Midnight Beat’s triple disc set, it is evident by the large number of instrumental takes.
Harrison was also generous to Eric Clapton to give him and his future band, the Dominos, an entire album to jam (the Apple Jam occupies Sides 5 and 6 of the triple LP). It was the spirit of the times, when artistic adventure went hand-in-hand with extravagance. It sure beats all those CDs of endless remixes of the same song.
As a bonus, ReproMan offers a long interview with Harrison at the end of disc 2 where the legend talks about the mastering of All Things Must Past and his future plans for the rest of the catalogue.
This is sourced from our silver disc copy.
