Hi Guys!
It's been interesting reading the posts on these two bands:
I think both acts, when judging the music need to be put into the era
they came from.
With the moodies, I know all the poetry is corny, but I think it is
fun and gives the music cohesion, linking the segments into the
concept.
It's just a shame they were shit live! (hee hee) the trouble with
multitracking is unless you add another couple of melotron players as
well as all the other multitracking, you either have to play tapes in
the background or have half the sound coming out (which is why
question of balance was simplified, but feck you guys all ol
mellotron fans know more on all this than me who was a wee baby at
the time!
That's why I love the moodies, I remember being a boy of around 6
years old, staring at the wine coloured flock wall paper whilst my
mum was drinking martinis in a haze of ciggy smoke listening to
childrens children ( i think that was her fav)
nostalgia is cool (always rose tinted though)
The key thing that changed all this was disco and punk, it killed the
demand for the type of music all these prog bands were producing so
wither bands died off or changed the sound significantly like the
more pop stuff the moodies ended up doing and romantic soft rock
genesis favored.
It's a cool piece of rock history, i say love it for all it's glory
and naivity.
my own favs are from the moodies is seventh sojorn, not cos it's the
best, but because when i was nineteen i went back packing with my
girlfriend across canada with that tape and the cocteau twins
victoria land (I had clifford whites accension as well) So when I
hear that it really brings those times back
from the gabriel genesis era it would be trespass, (opps pre tron i
think??)
from the collins era i have to say i really like the enrgy of abacab
(opps post tron)
what is cool is seeing tron popping up in modern acts.
love peace and parsnips from a younger (36) hippy that hopes one day
to grace the airwaves with modern alternative music laced in my
novatron!
p.s sorry this is a long and winding post!
how about a thread on the most chessiest words set to a tron!
