Subject: speaking of effects boxes

I went to see Porcupine Tree last night. They all had effects pedal boards with something like 15 or 20 stomp boxes chained together. Quite insane, but the sounds produced were stunning. There were at least 60 individual stomp boxes visible on stage. They all appeared to have an Ernie Ball volume pedal and an EH - POG. A bit of a wiring nightmare!
Richard Barbieri played some sweet Mellotron samples. Mostly stings, but at one point I'm sure I heard the Chamberlin solo female voice loud and clear.
Such a strange band. Melodic with beautiful sweeping FX at times. Then they switch into the metal stuff and sound like Slipknot to me. The dynamics / variety works well on some tunes. Like King Crimson, they do a lot of intentionally discordant stuff. Some of it works for me, some of it is painful.
All things considered... It was a great show.
