Not true Mark. I can walk you right through the process. It's a piece of cake. You don't have to remove the other capacitors, although they are rendered useless by the SMS board. All of the modifications can be done in about 20 minutes. Modifying the power supply will have no effect on the preamp or any other components and you won't fry anything. Mellotrons are amazingly simple, but even if you don't understand what you're doing, as long as you follow simple instructions, nothing will go wrong. You are not going to break or damage anything.
 
I have walked a lot of folks on our list through all kinds of improvements on there machines and once done, what originally seemed complicated and risky worked out just fine.

I did manage to wire in a standard socket but trust me if I attempted the CM10 and belt change I would be swapping a tron which works  reasonably well for one  that didn't work at all!
