An M400 flight case makes a great amplifier isolation box for recording. You can overdrive the amp and crank it up to 11 without frightening the shit out of your pets. You just need a small hole in it to run the amp input, power and mic cables trough. So far, I have only tried a Fender Champion 600 and a 300 watt home-made combo amp with a SM57. Both amps sounded great. I think that the key to getting that 'edgy' sound is that it is a live microphone (not direct) and that the Decibels are in the brain damage zone.
