Can anyone tell me if the M400SM originated from Streetly, or was it a
soley American variant? I hate the control panel face plate on it.
Curious in Cincinnati.
If the black face is shiney, you should be able to peal the black sticker off (it takes a lot of work) and you'll find a regular Mellotron face plate underneath. Acetone helps, and it won't damage the silk screened writing on the face plate. I have removed about a half dozen of them. Oddly, the control panel face plate that was on the Black Mellotron was different from the others I've seen and was a cheesy tin piece of crap that currently resides in the Fairfax County dump.

| This is what was under one of those black faceplates. I also removed the "gold" inserts from the knobs and put brushed aluminum ones in to match the faceplate. This is for #1334 | |
| This is the faceplate that was on 1562 when I first got it. I eventually put stock knobs on it but the face plate itself was in such good shape that I left it in place. It would come off if I wanted to remove it. Notice that the labeling for tracks A, B & C are reversed. | |
| If yours looks like this one, you may be screwed. Markus has some original ones that he might part with. I have a couple but I'm not parting with them | |
