My vote goes to Fripp for his work on the KC album Lizard, primarily on "Cirkus" and the bolero portion of "Lizard". The sound is just magnificent.

Too bad he stopped using the MkIIs after this album, even in the studio. (Too bad he stopped using them, period. I think a few mellotron parts would relieve the tedium that sets in because of the incessant guitar "chatter" in every song they currently do.)

Of course for sheer majesty, you still can't beat "Epitaph". I listened to it last Christmas on someone's $80k stereo system with the volume set on Nuclear Meltdown. The owner of the system, who'd never heard it before, immediately went to his computer to order a copy of the CD. It knocked dishes off a shelf three rooms away and I will not repeat what his angry wife said to us.
