Subject: Re: [newmellotrongroup] 10 Worst Keyboards

I should mention a few things:
I assume we are talking stock on most of these things.
If it has to be modded, it's not designed right.
Otherwise we can take the EMI off the list (mine,
after all, is wonderful, but very tricked-out to get
there). We could also remove the Rhodes problem as
there are mods for most of it's issues as well.
I will say that as far as the MicroKorg, definitely
post 2K. Oh, and that new MS2000 sounds just awful.
I loved the Mirage I had, but they (ensoniqs) age
badly. The disk drives go south pretty quickly, the
sequencers tend to freak out and the programming
architecture is maddening, much like the early Roland
samplers, although I have an S-50 that I love, it just
takes a bit of doing. Oh, and yes, the folks at
Ensoniq are lovely people, my experience with them has
been great. A friendly company that supports it's
gear is a definite plus. They take chances with their
designs and I respect that immensely.
Yes, the PSR Yamahas are toys, but they are keyboards
and they do suck. I will only vouch for the decidedly
monstrous CP-70 and the like, as they are lovely.
I'm something of an analog extremist, so that should
be taken into consideration when viewing all my
opinions. Such as:
Anything that does any kind of "modeling" synthesis
can go right into the dustbin. Although fine for live
use, as the convenience factor is undeniable, for
sheer depth of sound quality, I have yet to hear a
modeling synth that does anything other than badly
masquerade as analog. You can't spray-paint an apple
orange and get a tangerine.

On an aside, as much as I disliked having to switch
lists, I love the renewed vigor of the postings here!
My doubts are dispelled.
Cheers all!

EMI103S "The Bastard"-calmly tolerating it's almost
immediate addition to the list.
