Thanks John and Bernie,
I tend to have the volume control set to about 8:00, ignore the tone control and try and sort the sound out through the mixer. I must get around to having somebody who understands electronics to have a look at my mellotron.

Mark,
I suspect that you have either a problem with your tone pot or your
pre-amp. The tone control on my M400 has a very noticeable effect on
the sound output.
