I have very personal feelings of said subject. Yeah it was a weak
rendition on most counts, but so was the rest of the material. Yeah I
bought the DVD, on the other hand there has been worse done to these
and it was interesting to see some sort of updated presentation thus
catching the attention of an audience mainly unaware of these early
tunes. And how about all those other groups that have done the same
thing, let's not go into the post Mellotron Genesis or Yes periods.
What I fail to understand and seems to be common in most live outings
is why can't these players use a more realistic string sound? There
are enough good samples out there. The Crimson cuts would have come
off a lot more realistic if he used the Mellotron CD or even a
Memotron.
A couple of weeks ago I went to see the Stylistics and all the string
parts were those weak thin lackluster Triton patches. C'mon, at least
get an E4 or Kurtzweil and load up something with a little life into
it.
The nights I play and the M400 stays home, it's the Korg 01,Yamaha
SY77, and the E4 rack with the essential Emulator library and the
Mellotron CD and guess what, the strings sound like strings, a trumpet
sounds like a trumpet and if I need a Farfisa 5 or Moog patch it's just
a turn of a dial. Would this be so hard for others to do and if so
please enlighten me.....Doug
