   Oops, what I meant to say was "3-violins in unison with a 'tron bass organ".  It sounds like something Pinder could play side by side on the MK2.  But the bass viol is a definite possiblity.

I think that the deepest sound you're hearing on the E-B-E bits might be (shock horror) a
real Double Bass (bowed). There's a strong bow-sound ahead of the last but one occurrence.
... Although the 3 violins sound like they're half-speed ...

Moodies used real cellos and d-bass occasionally back then. Bass flute can be heard on
other recordings too.
