This topic is one of my favorite things to read about onthis (and the old group)…

 

As a new owner of an M400, soon to be restored at the goodProfessor’s Ranch, I am looking forward to playing some of my favorite ‘Tronpassages and songs such as…

 

  1. the 8 Voice choir entrance on Dancing With the Moonlit Knight (SEBTP Genesis)/I still get chills after 35 years of listening
  2. Silent Sorrow in Empty Boats (The Lamb Lies Down also Genesis)/More chills
  3. the instrumental passage at the end of Entangled (Trick of the Tail; of course, Genesis)/Again- chills
  4. all tracks from the Strawbs Hero and Heroine especially Hero’s Theme
  5. Gates of Delirium/Soon (Yes’ Relayer)
  6. almost any Spock’s Beard track w/Mellotron on it is a classic in my book/ Go the Way You Go- a most majestic theme- the end of Thoughts is also superb; what about the middle section of Harm’s Way?
  7. The Engulfed Cathedral- Isao Tomita (no one ever discusses the glorious ‘Trons on his early recordings; why?)
  8. Three Friends, Gentle Giant/ An amazing chord sequence!

Most definitely TOCCC. I also enjoy listening to anyof the live
Moodies recordings, no matter what the quality. It's interesting to
hear how Pinder modifies his Tron parts for live performance.

I also like the sound of the Tron in the Strawbs' recordings "Grave
New World " and "Bursting At TheSeams".

The Mellotron part in Steve Miller's "In My First Mind" on
the "Children Of The Future" album also comes to mind.

Then there's "Heart Of The Sunrise" on Yes' Fragile album and
"The Devil's Triangle" on King Crimson's "In The Wake OfPoseidon".

I also really like Fritz's Tron recordings on "The Feeling Of Far".
It's very up close and shows just how good a finely tuned Mellotron
can sound without being drenched in reverb (not that I don't also
enjoy that sound).

BTW, there's an interesting article about MM&W in the latest Keyboard
magazine. No mention of Trons though.
