I'm giving it up. I bought the Mellotron new from a music store around 25+ years ago or so, planning to use it for recording. Never had time/place/cash to set up the studio. So I finally decided to sell it to someone who knows what it is and will give it a good home.
It is SN 1354. It has been in a home, a church recording studio and another home where it is now, always climate controlled, no pets, no kids. Around 14 years ago I kept it in the church where I was the orchestra director, but never used it. While there, I removed the tape rail and de-magnetized the heads, reinstalled the tape rail and played it a bit, mostly for the curious who had never heard of it. Played fine but I never recorded with it. Finally moved it to a friend's home where it sits with bubble-wrap on the keyboard for dust protection.
I'm enclosing a few photos. Everything is original. So you can take it from there. I hate to give it up, if nothing else, for the history of the instrument. So here it is.
Asking $500,000
Will sell it for $3,000
Please text or call for more photos or questions.
