I don't know if it's delusional Tom. Samples certainly are not better. Since I upgraded my keyboard with new pinch rollers, it BEGS ME to play it. It's exactly the same feeling playing a real piano versus samples. It fights you, and I like that, a lot. To my ear, it sounds better, it sounds authentic.  My outboard gear responds to the hot output. Users who do not have a real machine, a well maintained machine, do not know the joy of playing, composing and arranging on the real thing. The machine forces you to be creative. It goes beyond just being a preset in your generic sampler. There, I'm done.

I have been using 24 bit tron samples for years but only out of neccessity, ie. Because I am on a plane or train or somehow unable to get to my instrument. Sample users trying to say that they are as good or better than the real actual mellotrons are deluding themselves or just unable to maintain the actual machine.

I guess I'm less of a purist than I used to be. All my tapes are tuned
