No, the chains were not slack...  The problem was that the clutch was not tight, I tightened it and the cycling worked quite well...  Until last night....

The squeal is odd. I sometimes get that when a tape is stuck in or before the tapebox.Power off as quickly as possible …

Because of the age of these cycling machines, Jerry Korb would never cycle more than one station at a time for fear of spilling tapes. The 1/4" tape is also more prone to static buildup, causing tape stickies. Fortunately, the new machines don't and won't suffer this problem.
