Very sad to hear about Mr Manzarek's passing. He was always a major inspiration to me as a player and from what I can gather he was a very smart and pleasant guy.RIP Ray.Love and Scones.Wallis.

It is hard to watch one by one , these rock pioneers fall away. I think the story goes that Ray originally played a vox continental but it was an italian model. These had plastic keys that were glued to metal shafts, unlike the wooden British keys , and they broke off. The italian vox also has a reedier sound, a little closer to a farfisa. He replaced the vox with the Gibson later on.

My wife hated the chessy farfisa sound - but I loved the studio work - he was great with that Doors mysterioso sound........
