In NYC, the union rate is $112/hour with additional fees for overdubbing. Overtime is calculated in 20 minute increments.  This is for spot work.  Album rates differ and are usually start at a 3 hour minimum session time.

Non-union work can vary widely, but I like to pay $200 for any amount of time up to 2 hours. I am always prepared, so my players rarely take more time than that for my personal work.

Wow, I didn't know that Bernie.  I use to do  a lot of work as a session bassist before I got into full time composing.  A lot of it was crap, but once in a while I'd work with great players and/or interesting projects.
