Thanks for the clue to the EMI Froese3CD set, I will look into that.

I have always regretted not buying Ypsilon back in the '70s.  I remember it in the import section of a nice little college record store in Ft. Collins called "Bach or Rock" (say it fast).  I did buy Phaedra, Aqua, and Macula Transfer there, which I still have.

One can understand when a stark problem with an old recording can stick in an artist's (or producer's) craw.  An example is the dissonant cymbal strike in the Moodie's "For My Lady".  The experienced listener expects to hear it, but in recent editions the volume of it is reduced a bit.  McCartney completely removed the one "tinkle" sound in the new mix of  "Maybe I'm Amazed", and I miss it.  But I disagree with artists who decide that the original performances need remixing with new sounds and phrases to the point that they loose the original feel & structure.  Are they really that insecure about the originals?  In contrast, a 5.1 surround mix is expected to be different, but not too much.  I accept that.  But, if the original stereo recording is subject to an update, at least offer both for comparison.

yes, the 2004 "tangentization" of Epsilon in Malaysian Pale was awful - sounded like he just slapped a load of Korg M1 over the top of it.

Thankfully EMI have made the original available again on CD (as part of their Froese 3CD set).

I honestly didn't realise the Esoteric/Reactive edition of Sorceror was tangentized!?!? I am bewildered.
