Subject: Re: [newmellotrongroup] OT modern synth recommendations

Thanks Rick, I think I'm coming round to the idea of Tetra module, which essentially is half a Prophet ie 4 voices rather than 8 but otherwise the same. New Zealand is a small place, I have to travel to Wellington ( 3.5 hour sea crossing ) to try out any keyboards and there isn't a great selection there. I'm hoping to be able to directly compare the Moog Slim Phatty and the Tetra this next trip, they have a Voyager module and Prophet 08 but they are both a bit more than I want to spend.

I've had a Voyager for about 7 years now and I've been really happy with it.

Built like a tank with lots of flexibility and that great Moog sound.

I've played a Prophet 08 and liked what I heard. If I go poly, I'd definitely take a second look at that.

Hope that helps.

Rick

Not so much a reply as a related request for information. I am thinking of buying an analog synth at the moment I'm using a Microkorg which I am very happy with but I think I would like a true analog synth. I've been looking at the Dave Smith Tetra and the Mopho and I am hoping to try out the Moog Slim Phatty soon. Anybody have any recommendations?

Mark

Subject: [newmellotrongroup] OT modern synth recommendations

Dear all

It looks like I'll be playing abroad later this year, without being able to
take my regular rig (Jupiter-8, Taurus pedals, generic fake Hammond and
piano). I'm hoping to be able to use my Pro-One (which will fit in a
suitcase) to fake the Taurus and a mono synth patch I need, but I'll have to
hire something locally to cover everything else, i.e. overdriven Hammond,
piano and synth strings. I'm almost entirely ignorant of modern synths, so
does anyone have any recommendations for something I can ask for? Assuming I
get any choice, that is :-)

Many thanks in advance,

Andy T.
