Not sure why. The Davoli didn't make it's appearance on a Caravan album until For Girls Who Grow Plump in the Night. Steve Miller never used one.
As for the subject of the thread, I consider Lol to have been a dear friend despite only having met him a few times. I recorded some performances he did here in Toronto while on tour with The Matchbox Purveyors (a duo with Ian Hinchcliffe) and hung out with him over a few days in London a couple of years later. A delightful gentleman who will be sadly missed.
BTW, this isn't exactly OT. Remember his "Superbly Played Mellotron Codas" on Ear of Beholder.
