During the sound check, I had a chat with John Medeski. I had just put the tape frame in and tested each key with headphones. After the bumpy two hour trip in the truck, I was expecting that something might need adjustment. Had my screw driver ready but didn't need to use it.
We hooked up the MK-VI to the house PA system. When Jack heard it he came over and sat on my tape frame case. Medeski did some rapid scooting up and down the keyboard. He didn't play any chords and didn't play any note for longer than a second. He turned to me and said "This feels just like a 400. I thought the Swedish job was supposed to be better." I quickly said "pads, rollers and springs man. That's how they feel. Let me know if you want anything adjusted". He asked for a volume pedal, so we wired up my Ernie Ball. He then played some flute notes at full volume. Jack smiled, gave us the nod of approval and went looking for his Warwick fretless.
The sale to the backine rental company was arranged a few days before the show, so I drove home with an empty truck. :-(
