A lot of modular synthesizer players don't use keyboards. Some play their sequencers, some use their Kaoss pads as controllers, some their drum machines, and some use guitars. Not only that, but they break all the "rules" about what module can feed what module, unlike the limitations that a self-contained keyboard-based synthesizer places on the player.
