Hi RIck,

Thanks for your info. My problem is that I don't  get certain principles that rule this field. For instance, I had a lot of problems installing even the old M-Tron simply because anytime I turned off the PC the configuration disappeared and I had to re-configure it again. QUite frustranting. I never knew why it happened.

best regards,

Roberto

Roberto -

I'm relatively new to this stuff myself so take what I say with a grain of salt.

As far as actual recording goes, I think it may depend on how you are going to record. If you're recording using hardware, you'd need a different type of reference book than if you're using a Digital Audio Workstation. And your best bet in either case might be the manual that accompanies your hardware/software, rather than some kind of general reference text.

In either case there are lots of video tutorials on You Tube specific to whatever hardware or software you're using to record. Sorting through them can be a bit frustrating at times but there's lots of good info out there.

Once you've got the basics of the recording process down, I do have a couple books to recommend when it comes to mixing, which is a whole other undertaking all on its own.

"Zen and the Art of Mixing" by Mixerman and "Mixing Audio (Concepts, Practices and Tools)" by Roey Izhaki have both been really helpful for me. I'm sure some people will have issues with some of the discussions in either book but I've definitely found more than a few really helpful tips in them.

But as I said, some of the people in this group have way more experience than me and can perhaps give you even better guidance.

Good luck. It's a bit daunting at the outset but great fun once you get going.

Rick

Hi y'all,

Does anybody here knows of a good book about home studio/PC recording ?
I have no idea on how to work with plug ins, VST, MIDI etc...even some of the basic principles escapes me. I'm from another generation...power on...plug in you guitar/keyboard into the amp and turn it up to 11, of course...

thanks in advance,

Roberto
