I use a Memotron. They are expensive but very good and very practical. The CD library which ships with the Memotron (Vintage) is indeed FAR superior to the M-Tron sounds, which I also have. You get 3 variations on 3 Violins and most of the other classics. The Pinder CD-ROM probably has the edge on the Memotron library but then you need to lug a sampler around as well as everything else. Although the Memotron has a CD slot, the Compact Flash slot on the back is the way to go as you can create your own virtual Tape Frame with 3 sounds of your choice + settings and FX, save to CF card and then load with a couple of clicks. Like you I use a LOT of Mellotron in the bands I play with, I do own a real Mellotron 400 but that is out of the question for rehearsals and gigs (unless we played somewhere REALLY special...) so I need a good substitute. (And yes, Martin, I will always be the first to agree that it is only a substitute... ain't nothing like the real thing baby!) I haven't tried the other CDs in the Memotron library, Vintage has everything I need.

Hints:
1 play it through a digital delay, reverb or even analogue tape echo.
2. beware the Tone control - it's not a treble cut like on a real Mellotron, more like a 12db/octave VCF! The sound disappears below 1/3 clockwise.
3. i think the pitch bend is only +/-2 semitones so no Pinder bendotron fun :-(

Hope this gives you some idea. Best, Paul Marshall.

thanks for you quick response... i watched The kills on letterman. it..was great
although sound on sound on their reveiw say that their library is far superior to mtron (i own mtron pro which is a bit average in my opion -not the streetly tapes-) and because i am a heavy mellotron sound user i am a bit concerned....
i wish i could have an M4000 but way out of my league moneywise!!
at least now lol
