I understand this too. The beagle I got when I was in elementary school is now at the end of his rather long life. (Named him Snoopy, what else is a kid going to name a beagle? Shiloh perhaps!) Always had a massive seizure problem, now with arthritis, stone deaf, vision going, and congestive heart failure.

Thank God though he still seems to enjoy his life, and still pesters me for his twice daily walk. When the day comes he seems to suffer, I'll put him down so he doesn't have to suffer.

Hoping all the best for you and your companion.
