they HAVE dropped that far.
tape-based digital multitracks are dinosaurs already.
the ONLY place i know that still uses them at all is
a local post-house that uses a DA88 for recording
the 'stems' for film projects.
[for those unfamiliar, 'stems' are the separate elements
that make up a soundtrack: dialogue, ambient sound, special
effects, music. they are used when making alernate language
mixes so they ONLY have to re-record dialogue and can keep
all the other elements the same]
other than that, i have not seen anyone use an ADAT or DA88
type machine for at least 5 years - possibly a bit longer.
you got a good deal if the thing is useful to you.
just because other have moved on/abandoned then, does not
invalidate its usefulness to you.
