Just as an additional thought, I think one of my many mellotron playing sins is to make  the mellotron too prominent in recordings. I think this stems from my love of the instrument, I want everyone to hear it! I think sometimes it's more subtle and effective quietly playing in the background just supporting the harmonic structure of the piece.

PS That's not to say it isn't great used as an " in your face" solo instrument as well.

Good stuff, think the balance is about right.

Ok. Here's how I'm currently using Mellotron out and about in the wider world.

(Wish the soundman hadn't had left the flute and mellotron so far in the back.)

I just joined this band a bit over two months ago. Met them at a local open mic night. They liked my flute playing. I mentioned mellotrons and organs. The band leader got excited, said he could use mellotron and organ work! I play mostly clonewheel Hammond. (vb3 is amazing. It fools me) I do put in the occasional melly bits and often flute bits. Even the odd harmony vocals and mandolin work.

If you like what you hear, like us on facebook.

Thanks.
