John -
You'll want to send a fairly hot signal to your amps - enough so that it will stay clean throughout all your tinkering on your effects. This way you keep the noise down on the final output. Otherwise, if you have the tron at 25% you may have to crank the downstream volume too much to get the final gain you need and get a bunch of noise from those points in the signal stream.
I would test the noise output of the 'tron pre-amp, each effect and all the other points of gain before the power amp to find the sweet spot that keep the final signal as clean as possible. Just think of it this way: if you sent your final signal to the control board at a big venue like Wembley or Madison Square Garden, how clean would it be without even pressing a key?

Hi All,

I recently did some reconfiguring with keyboards. This may be a dumb question, but I'm just not sure about best way to handle. I run my Mellotron through an MXR Eq, Alesis Nanoverb, Behringer mixer, and then to amplifier. At each point, there is volume control and in the case of the mixer, I have channel volume, gain, master volume, plus the amp has both channel volume and master. Is there a rule of thumb on how to set all these volume controls? Presently, Tron is at 25% and all else is at 50%. Then, I just use master volume on the amp for overall loudness. Just wondering what some of you do.
