Not a dumb question. Find out what unity gain is on your mixer and the other stuff with preamps. It's probably 50% (one volt in = one volt out). I have my stuff wired unbalanced with the same gain settings as you. Anything else gives me more noise.

I run my Mellotron through an MXR Eq, Alesis Nanoverb, Behringer mixer, and then to amplifier. At each point, there is volume control and in the case of the mixer, I have channel volume, gain, master volume, plus the amp has both channel volume and master. Is there a rule of thumb on how to set all these volume controls? Presently, Tron is at 25% and all else is at 50%. Then, I just use master volume on the amp for overall loudness. Just wondering what some of you do.
