Very azimuthy though which was typical of London tapes.

I agree, however, I site 2 tracks where the "400" strings sound superb..

Genesis: "Mad Man Moon",  and Strawbs "Tears and Pavan"

I rest my case!

I changed out the tapes on my 400 for the Mark II violins, brass, and flutes. Sounds so much better.

Yes the violins did sound "different" IMO to what we now know as the Mk2 violins.
There was also my personal favourites Mixed Brass B which was "nasty"!

The MK II flutes and violins were re-equed for the M400.

Most are MK II sounds but there are special recordings for the 400 like cello and choir that were not in the MK II.

Someone has a complete list somewhere! Don't remember who.

This has probably been asked before, but can anyone tell me whether when the M400 came onto the market, there were new recordings made, or did they use the original MK2 sounds? (Or a mix maybe).
