Subject: audiophile voodoo

You know the old story about tube power amps. They need to warm-up before they sound good. Is there a good electrical explanation for this? I am always skeptical about audio voodoo like expensive speaker wire and such. I think that the long warm-up thing is imaginary. Sure the tube heaters need to get hot. That takes a minute.

I read the following comment today about a Luxman M-05 tube amp:

"My M-05 takes at least 20 min. to warm up. I try to keep it in standby mode. Give it an hour to really warm up and it's spectacular. The presentation opens right up and becomes very involving. Very 3D like and it envelops you. With the right music it will bring a tear to you eye."

Sounds like this guy smoked a doobie or two in that hour. He describes a dramatic change in the sound. Bollocks!
