Whilst I take Mike Dickson's point about not tampering with the tuning/noisyness of the original 'tron tape sound,

even Streetly do this, as is well documented on Mr Dickson's own Mellotron Tape Library pages,

which refer to numerous improvements in the tapes currently for sale.

 

The bottom line for me is:

I couldn't afford a real tron, and even if I could, I would have no means to transport it to gigs (let alone to band practices).

However I can (just about) afford an M4000D and will be able to carry it on the bus :)

Furthermore, if the sounds currently on it really suck that much, you can load new ones in on a Flash memory card.
I'm sure if enough people moan at Markus he's include a "genuined f∗cked up crap azimuth tape stretched" sound or two on the next set of 200...
