This exact same thing happened to another friend of mine about six months ago.  Same exact story.  I knew that she wasn't headed for England, so I let her know and she fixed her account.

The gunpoint part of the story is the first red flag.

And guns are still rare enough here that being 'robbed at gunpoint' in London is unlikely - more like knifepoint.
