Al , I was also wondering what sounds are on your tape frames on the Mark V you got from
Oscar Peterson and what the other Mark V owners "inherited" with their Mark V's
The tapes in mine are the original frames and are pretty eclectic in some respects.
Clearly this was a custom set made for the original owner.
The left set of tapes has:
Track A - Male Choir
Track B - Flute
Track C - 1st six keys are sound effects (BBC I assume):
G - Jet Take Off (Sounds like the same one used by the Beatles on "Back in the U.S.S.R")
G# - Train going down the tracks
A - Laugh track #1 (like for a TV show)
A# - Laugh Track #2 (a bit more funny and louder than the 1st laugh track)
B - Audience Applause #1
C - Audience Applause #2 (louder and more vigorous clapping/yelling than #1)
C# - F (rest of keyboard)-St. John's Wood Organ
The right set of tapes has:
Track A - Female Choir
Track B - 3 Violins
Track C - 1st 18 keys are sound effects (BBC I assume):
G - Gong
G# - Howling Wind
A - Rain downpour
A# - Chirping Birds
B - Ocean Waves/Surf cresting
C - Grunting Pigs (Sounds like the same one used by the Beatles on "Look at all the little
piggies lying in the dirt")
C# - Cuckoo Clock
D - Breaking Glass
D# - Big Ben Chiming on the hour
E - Brass Fanfare Part one (split between two adjacent keys)
F - Brass Fanfare Part two (Not sure what this is from, clearly sounds "Brittish".
I think I actually heard it used by Rick Wakeman buried in the mix on "Tales from
Topographic Oceans" when I got the CD of that album)
F# - Ocean Liner/Tugboat horn (Queen Elizabeth?)
G - Machine Gun Fire w/explosions, sounds of war?
G# - Air Raid Siren
A - Tape echo feedback effect-kind of like a '60's space sound/not sure what to call this
one
A# - Synth modulation sound effect. (Sounds like sawtooth wave modulation of oscillators
and filters on a Moog modular)
B - Sped up dialog gibberish sounding like Alvin and the Chipmunks. (I've really got to
sample this so I can pitch shift it back to it's original speed so I can figure out what they're
saying....heh)
C - Car By (Sounds like a car speeding down a race track)
C# - F Tubular Bells
I wonder if anyone has any idea who these sets were originally created for. Not the usual
tape sets for sure.
