Been listening to Aphrodite's Child's 1st album a lot lately. Loving the sound of the Melly on this album, which seems more nostalgic/vintage than usual for the instrument. This is the sound of a MkII mic'd up right?
Gets me to wondering, what is it about the sound that distinguishes as this very vintage sort of sound? Is it a particular bandpass on the frequency spectrum? Is it a certain measurable amount of harmonic distortion? A certain amount of white noise, or wow and flutter?
Any thoughts? I've pegged the King Crimson sound for Melly, but not Pinder's yet, and don't know what to start with for the Vangelis sound.
