Logically it should have been called a MK8 or something else....I understand Streetly's annoyance at the name.

I actually like the feel of a real mellotron and would be more comfortable playing something that approximated it and even resembled it . If I was going to do a small tour I would get one. I would certainly not use it in the studio though or consider it a replacement for a tape based unit. I doubt the m4000D will be a big seller , there are only a few eccentrics that would create a niche- I hope it doesn't pull Markus under.

> > I see the M4000D (and Memotron) as the next logical step of evolution of the Mellotron. Why is everyone so hung up on PLAYING BACK STRIPS OF TAPE? Yes it's cool..yes it was the starting point....but are people obsessing over the method and forgetting the reason for the sounds? The video demo of Markus' unit sounds great to me. I want one. I had an M400 for 25 years but have no desire to go back to that technology for moving around to live gigs. Loading tron banks into the E4K in a live show takes time (even if you have a bunch of sounds per bank)and the digital units provide immediate changes.

It's laughable really but I cannot escape being annoyed at the mindless mindset that trys to instigate consumer confusion by using a similar name yet riles at Memotron infringing almost everything including the fridge and underpants(leaving a witty personality unscathed). The truth is that NO ONE ELSE but he should be engaged in anything mellotronic. But that is never going to be the case because we are here for duration and no slight of hand or clumsy marketing device is going to alter our course.
