The jup 8 is not the end all and be all of synths. I can't imagine that
none of the modern analog polys (A6, Sunsyn, Omega-8) don't sound better.
Infact they all probably do. Also the JP8 architecture is quite simple
compared to those. Plus there is the lack keyboard expression. Let's not
forget that the damn things are always underfoot and in the way. I can't
swing a dead cat without hitting one.
JP8 Tip: I've always been annoyed by the lack of keyboard velocity on older
polyphonic analogs for more expressive playing. Then it hit me one day. If
you are controlling your JP8 from an external keyboard through Midi or DCB
and also have a midi to CV converter as most modular synth people do, you
can get a velocity CV out of the Midi converter and run it into the VCF
and/or the VCA inputs into the back of the JP8. Now you can control
brightness and/or loudness with keyboard velocity. It's monophonic
velocity, but that's fine for multitrack recording. Finally a JP8 with kybd
velocity.
