Hi John,

Most likely you're gonna need a new VCA-IC, custom chip by Roland... :-(
I had a similar problem with my JP8, one dead voice on both oscs. I had to
replace the VCA-IC to solve the problem. I'm not sure if the JP6 uses the
same parts, but I have heared that this is becoming a 'regular' problem
amongst the JP8s. It happens more often when teh age of the instrument
progresses... The IC cost me about 10 euros/USD + 2,50 shipping and two days
of hard labour...finding out where the problem came from...and fixing it.

If it is this custom IC that's dead, I wish you all the luck in the world
finding a replacement. Roland has discontinued their stock in JP-parts in
Europe...but maybe your repair man has a few on stock.

Good luck, let us know how it turns out.

~ Subject: JP-6 problem
~
~ Hi there!
~
~ I've had my Jupiter 6 for nearly four years now - and have recently
~ noticed a problem that perked my ears up. (I know this might be a bit
~ of a "dumb" question, but I'll post it anyway).
~
~ On every sixth note I play, only one oscillator sounds - well almost.
~ If I turn the mixer knob to VCO 2, there is a faint sound - but quite
~ low. Almost as if the ocsillator is still functioning, but the
~ amplification has been lowered significantly. I can get full volume
~ on the noise waveform though - strange, huh?
~
~ Is this a common problem among JP-6's? Anyone ever experienced this
~ phenomenon before?
~
~ Any help is appreciated! I just wanted to ask before I took it to a
~ repair shop.
