I don't see why you would ever have to change anything that way -- the
Assign Mode of each patch can be changed with either the MPG-80 or the
MKS-80 front panel.

In mode III the MKS-80 echoes all incoming data on it's MIDI out. To
prevent this, set it to either I or II using the switch labeled "MIDI
FUNCTION".

Mode I -- Notes with velocity, Sustain pedal, Active Sensing,
and Mode Message.

Mode II -- all of Mode I, plus Pitch Bend, Bender Sensitivity, Volume,
Mod Wheel, After Touch, Tune Request, and Program Change.

Mode III -- same as mode II, except it will send and receive SysEx,
only receive Program Change and will not send it when you
change patches, and send out all messages received
from MIDI in.

All of this is explained in the manual.
