I have a question about the number of oscillators on Juno and Jupiter
synths.
I've seen the Junos described as having one DCO and the Jupiters described
as having two VCOs. For instance, in an old mail from 1995 to Analogue
Heaven which I found in Mark Pulver's archive I read that "the 6, 60, and
106 had a single oscillator and a single envelope (with a built-in chorus
serving to fatten up the sound), while the Jupiters had two of each.".
From what I've seen of the Jupiter-8 it seems logical that it had two VCOs
providing eight voices. However, I don't understand how for instance the
Juno-106 can have only one DCO. Even if it doesn't have many modulation
routings, it's got selectable pulse, saw, sub and noise oscillators which
provide six voices each. Doesn't that mean that it actually has four
oscillators providing six voices each?
I must have misunderstood something, it would be great if somebody could
clear this up for me.
