Indeed, a JV-1010 or, better, a 2080 are very cheap, sound mint and are
great for meat and potatoes.
If you have nothing for coin, the Alesis S4+ is cheaper than the 1010, I
believe, and you can even use your own samples by writing them to pcmcia
cards. I find its control surface crap compared to the 2080 and not as
instant as the 1010. The 1010 doesn't really have a control surface,
just knobs. :P
