This is not an issue with the OS, it is user error.

When you hit STORE - are you hitting the key twice so the SURE?[Y/N] flashes? If you hit
STORE only a single time you may still use the -/= keys to select a Voice location - then
hitting STORE a second time will present the prompt SURE?[Y/N]

Regarding the OS, you will find the following on the AN1x FAQ:
http://www.geocities.com/jondl_2000/an1x_faq/an1x_faq_toc.htm

How can I determine the OS of the AN1x?

Turn OFF the power.
Press and hold the [0], [-] and [+] buttons down simultaneously while turning ON the
power.

What is the most current OS Version of the AN1x?

v1.04 - EPROM supplied by Yamaha can be installed by the user with average ability to
install computer peripherals and memory upgrades.

Are there any new features introduced with the most current version of the AN1x OS?

No, v1.04 introduces no new features.

What bug fixes are addressed with the most current version of the AN1x OS?

1.04 OS corrects an erroneous 'low voltage' warning which can occur prematurely and also
corrects the audio response when modulating the depth, i.e., return, of delay effects.
