I'm rushed...on my way out the door but had to write to save you some greif.

I JUST went through a whole bunch of time and frustration with a Carvin amp
I needed 4 different potentiometers for.

FIRST AND FOREMOST: Try like HELL to order it from Yamaha. Ask someone here
if they even have a parts list so you can get the part number. This is the best alternative if
possible.

If not possible...I just went through this and it is tough. One of the best places I
found was www.mouser.com I think it was called. Also
www.allelectronics.com

and http://www.tubesandmore.com/

ONE major thing. Don't assume because it looks right, if there is a picture, that it is right.
Sorry if you already know this, and I kind of even did but still got bitten...

You have to find the specs. One major thing, there are two kinds of pots, B and A.
B is linear taper, and A is Audio (logorithmic) taper. Make sure you get the same kind
as is in there. Also MEASURE everything and if they don't provide specs on the site, OR
if you know for sure the pot is "standard" (like 24mm diameter on the pot part, same type
of shaft, same length to the pins, same type of mount...there are PC mount (stright legs down..)
and the other kind (legs bent up behind he pot)....

Take time, and one other thing. If you order one, and find the right kind for sure, order
a few more, maybe even try and determine if any other pots are going and order at the same time.

One good thing about ordering more than you need, you can ohm them out (none are perfect) and
find the one that is either most in spec or most like the one you took out.

Good luck!
